We all have that one subject that we don’t do well at.

If you are not satisfied with your grades, it might mean that your study methods are not working well for that subject.

After you received the results of a school assessment, did you watch how some of your classmates were high-fiving each other because they scored the very high marks that you wanted?

Did you ever wish that they could teach you the study skills that they have mastered, so that you too can score excellent grades like them?

Students who are seeking additional learning support are more than likely doing it as a result of frustration and desperation.

They probably have tried seeking assistance from other places before they manage to find a home tutor whom they are comfortable with.

Many students struggle with the concept of good study habits.

It is vital that your home tutor is able to coach and guide good behaviours for your child to adopt, when it comes to approaching school work, homework and exams.

Exam Smart has Singapore’s most effective home tutors.

You will be much better prepared to score substantially higher grades in your exams.

Our resourceful tuition coordinators how to find committed tutors who can identify the causes why you obtained lower than expected grades.

Your qualified tutor from Exam Smart will identify your weak areas, help you develop your personalized set of notes that is closely tailored to your own learning style, show you how to avoid careless mistakes, and give you undivided attention.

SINGAPORE’S LEADING PRIVATE TUITION AGENCY

HOW DO I REQUEST FOR A TUTOR?

You can request for a tutor by submitting our online Request Form.

Upon receiving your request, we will Whatsapp you to discuss your child’s academic needs. We will spend the next few hours shortlisting several suitable tutors within our database and network for your consideration.

Our working hours are from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week.

Tuition usually commences within one week after you have selected a tutor.

TRIAL LESSON

The paid trial lessons can be 1.5 hours or 2 hours per session.

CAN I CHANGE THE TUTOR AFTER THE TUITION BEGINS?

You just need to pay for the tuition session(s) that have been conducted. There will not be any extra charges for the change.

AM I ABLE TO VIEW THE TUTOR’S CERTIFICATES BEFORE THE FIRST LESSON?

You can request to see the hardcopies of certificates of your tutor to be presented to you during the first lesson.

The client acknowledges that it is his/her responsibility to verify the suitability, credentials and qualifications of any tutor with whom he/she engages.

HOW MUCH DO I PAY FOR YOUR TUTOR MATCHING SERVICES?

Exam Smart is Singapore’s leading private tuition agency and our matching service is free for students/parents requesting for tutors. This is because our agency commission is charged to the tutor, not to you.

The client will pay to Exam Smart half of the fees payable in the first 4 calendar weeks. This amount is the commission to Exam Smart for matching the tutor to the client, and will be borne by the tutor.

Thereafter, the client will pay the tuition fees directly to the tutor.

If lessons are postponed during the first two weeks, the commission payable to Exam Smart will be based on the tuition session conducted the subsequent week(s).

The tutor shall collect all fees due to the tutor from the parent after the two weeks. Exam Smart will not assist in any recovery of fees.

PAYMENT OF FEES

The client is required to pay tuition fees only for the number of hours of lessons given by the tutor.

If you decide to stop the tuition after the first lesson, you are required to pay for only that lesson.

Please transfer the fee for that lesson to Exam Smart and we will transfer the tutor’s fee to him/her.

Tutors are not authorized at any time to collect the payment on Exam Smart’s behalf.

Tuition fees are to be paid every 4 weeks to the tutor, unless otherwise agreed between the client and the tutor.

PAYMENT MODE

We will provide our bank account information for you to make payment via internet banking or ATM transfer directly to Exam Smart’s bank account.

If the client fails to pay us, Exam Smart reserves the right to terminate the Assignment. This is in fairness to the tutor, who might need to give the available slot to another client if this Assignment does not materialize.

Once the payment is received, it will be acknowledged in the form of a receipt, issued to the payer (Parent/Requestor/Guardian) via Whatsapp, sms, email or other electronic communications medium. We will also provide details of the Tuition Assignment that can include: tutor’s name, hourly fee, date of commencement of tuition, subject(s), level, duration of each lesson and frequency, etc.

FIRST LESSON

Once the client accepts the tutor’s candidacy, the client will not be able to change the schedule of the First Lesson.

Clients are allowed to make changes in the schedule after the First Lesson is over. However, Exam Smart hopes that this is not necessary as the tutor has already reserved that slot of time for you.

If you want to make changes in the schedule, please consult with your tutor to ask if he/she is able to change the schedule or not.

The tutor is to bring his/her identity document, academic transcripts/certificates and relevant documents for the First Lesson for verification purposes.

If the tutor is unable to conduct the First Lesson of a tuition assignment, the tutor must call Exam Smart at least 3 business days before the actual lesson. If the tutor fails to notify Exam Smart of his/her cancellation/postponement, an administrative charge of S$30 will be imposed on him/her.

If the tutor fails to contact Exam Smart with a valid reason to inform us about the tutor’s absence from the lesson, the tutor’s profile at Exam Smart may be blacklisted. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

LOCATION OF TUTORING LESSONS

Tutors will conduct lessons at the student’s residence unless otherwise specified and agreed upon by both the client and the tutor.

If the client has a request for the tuition to be conducted at another location (eg a friend’s home), Exam Smart will ask if the tutor is able to accommodate the request.

Exam Smart and the tutor will not be responsible if the given location is occupied or not available for use for the lessons and the officially scheduled timings will still be counted as a paid lesson.

TUTOR REASSIGNMENT OR CANCELLATION OF ASSIGNMENTS

There is no obligation or contract to complete a fixed number of lessons, except for the First Lesson.

If at any time the client is not satisfied with the tutor, the client may request a replacement or termination. However, the client is responsible for paying the fee for the number of lessons given prior to termination.

Exam Smart will discuss separately with the client and the tutor regarding future tuition arrangements, and Exam Smart will change the tutor for the client. There will not be any extra charges for the change and the client needs to pay just for the tuition session(s) that have been conducted.

If the client cancels a tutoring assignment before the tutor completes the agreed number of lessons for the first 4 calendar weeks, Exam Smart assumes full claim to 50% of the tuition fees for the total number of lessons delivered in the month. For example, if the client had requested for 8 lessons per month, but the assignment was cancelled after the 5th session, Exam Smart will be paid pro-rated commission for the 5 lessons conducted.

Exam Smart will not be liable for any payment charges or issues arising from the cancellation of tuition assignments by the client.

If the client terminates the Assignment because the tutor is often late, skips lessons without valid explanations etc, the tutor will bear Exam Smart’s full commission fee.

If the tutor cancels the Assignment after confirming acceptance (that is, the client’s contact information and address have been given to the tutor), the tutor will need to compensate the commission which amounts to 50% of the fees payable (as stated in the confirmation Whatsapp, sms, email or other forms of electronic communications messages) for the first 4 weeks.

If the tutor wishes to cancel a Tuition Assignment before the end of the first 4 calendar weeks, the tutor is to inform both Exam Smart as well as the client at least 3 days before the next lesson date. Exam Smart will recover our legal share of the one-time commission of 50% of the fee for the first 4 calendar weeks from the tutor. Tutors are encouraged to have a long-term commitment as the clients have vested their trust in them.

TERMINATION

The tutor will receive full or pro-rated payment for the number of lessons rendered, provided the tutor has complied with the Terms of this Agreement.

The client has the right to terminate the tuition if the tutor is unable to produce the documents certifying his/her credentials. In such cases, the tutor has to pay Exam Smart the amount of money equivalent to the tuition fee for the day, as commission.

Singapore's most sought-after Chinese tuition teachers

Responsible and patient tutors will guide you to academic success

We do not speak Chinese at home, and we are not particularly interested in Chinese songs or movies. Charles has been weak at Chinese from kindergarten, and he was falling behind really badly by P2. We found Mr David from Exam Smart. The previous Chinese tuition teachers were too structured and wanted to help Charles only according to what was required in his homework. Charles tried very hard but just couldn’t get along with them at all. Mr David alternates between strict and very fun, so Charles really enjoys his lessons. Charles managed to get AL2 for his Chinese PSLE and we are very grateful to Mr David for all of his valuable help.

O Level Chinese was generally manageable. For some reason, my grades in the first half of JC1 started to slip and I got a C for my assessments. I don’t mind a B (A is of course better), but C is too  close to a fail grade. If it continued this way, I would not do well for my A Levels. I went online and found Exam Smart. Their coordinator is very professional, and showed me profiles of 6 very experienced and qualified Chinese tuition teachers that same afternoon that I contacted them.

chinese tuition

I dread writing essays in Chinese. My English essays are always in the B and A range, but my Chinese vocabulary is quite narrow. Chinese spelling is also another problem that I face. One small stroke in the wrong direction, and of course the entire meaning (if there is any meaning, even) changes. Madam Kwok is a former MOE teacher, and she taught me some simple short cuts to broaden my vocabulary. My spelling also started to improve.

chinese tuition

I managed to get AL3 for my PSLE Chinese, and I want to maintain my A grades until my O Levels. Having a friendly Chinese tuition teacher who would encourage my interest in the language was very important to me, in order for me to grow as a student of the Chinese language. Mr Sng started teaching me in Sec 1, and I wanted him to speak to me in Chinese throughout our Chinese tuition sessions. The academic exercises he put me through were very useful to help me gain marks.

My husband and I tried different ways to get Sebastian to be more interested in the Chinese language and culture. We took him to Beijing and Shanghai. He liked the holidays there, but still didn’t want to put in the effort for his homework and exams. Exam Smart found him a Chinese tuition teacher who blogs interesting topics. He has quite a large online following, and Sebastian now excitedly tells us how his writing has improved after reading his Chinese tuition teacher’s writing. In order to really understand what the tutor wrote, Sebastian of course had to develop his command of Chinese.

When I was in P6, my school’s Chinese teacher told me that she spent 2 semesters in study exchange programmes to China, when she was at university. The stories she told us about the cultural immersion were so fascinating. I got very interested in all things Chinese since then, and I really want to be on a 1 semester study exchange programme too, once I get into NUS or NTU. I am determined to keep getting A’s for my Chinese. Ms Angeline has been my Chinese tuition teacher since Primary 3, and she helped me to get an A for my O Levels. I should be able to get an A for my A Levels too.

Typically, parents request for MOE teachers and experienced tutors.

The tutor and the client will be solely responsible for any issues arising from the information that the client and you have submitted to us.

USE OF INFORMATION

The primary purpose in collecting personal information is to provide the users with a smooth and customized matching experience.

To ensure success of the Tuition Assignment, Exam Smart is selective of the type of students we accept as there is a small percentage of students who are not suitable for tuition.

To assist Exam Smart to make better decisions regarding tuition assignments that match your credentials and expectations, we will ask for your personal information. The personal information collected includes but is not restricting to the following:

 Private information such as name, and birth data
 Contact information such as email address, mobile number and physical residential address

 Additional information which we may ask for if we believe the Website’s or Services’ policies are violated

MOE TEACHERS/NIE STUDENTS

Tutors who are current MOE teachers are required to obtain the necessary approval from the Ministry of Education before accepting any assignment from Exam Smart.

ACCURACY OF INFORMATION

The tutor shall fill in as accurately and completely as possible his/her name, contact details, qualifications, results, relevant experience, subject and level preferences, and will update such information in a timely manner.

The tutor shall not mislead users accessing the website and using Exam Smart’ services. You will not provide inaccurate, invalid, false or incomplete information to Exam Smart.

The tutor is solely responsible for any legal liability arising out of or relating to the Tutor Profile submitted to Exam Smart, and shall indemnify Exam Smart against any and all claims, damages, liability, loss, or causes of action (including legal fees and expenses that may be incurred by Exam Smart) in connection with the provision of services by this website.

TUITION REQUESTS AND ASSIGNMENTS

The tutor understands that the information submitted to Exam Smart pertaining to his/her qualifications may be released by Exam Smart to the Client(s) for the purpose of tuition matching.

The tutor and the client explicitly agree to Exam Smart and our network contacting you via Whatsapp, phone call, sms and/or other electronic communications channels to conduct tuition matches.

If the proposed Assignment interests you, please reply us via Whatsapp, sms or through the same electronic communications channel that we contacted you with. There is no need for you to call us.

Please note that Assignments would be confirmed with the client and tutors based on the most qualified match and prompt response from the tutor.

We reserve complete rights to reject any applications for the assignments.

If the tutor is not interested in the Assignment that we contacted you with, please disregard the assignment message.

CLIENTS’ CRITERIA FOR SELECTING TUTORS

The criteria stated by the client for each Tuition Assignment can differ from case to case.

Some clients require MOE teachers, others state their preference for experienced undergraduates with proven experience to improve the grades of their students.

Tuition Assignments are based on tuition demand and how well the profile of each tutor matches with the client’s requirements.

Exam Smart makes tutor recommendations based on the tutors’ known track record in successful tutoring.

The submission of the tutor’s profile to the client does not bind the client to engage the services of the tutor, and remains subject to confirmation by the client.

FEES AND COMMISSION

Once the tutor and the client confirm a match, the tuition rate is non-negotiable once agreed upon.

The client will pay to Exam Smart the fees amounting to half of the fees payable in the first 4 calendar weeks. This amount shall be deemed as the commission to Exam Smart for matching the tutor to the client, and will be borne by the tutor who will forgo receiving the said fees paid by the client. Therefore, no payment will be made by the client to the tutor for half of the lessons conducted in the first month.

Thereafter, the client will pay the tuition fees directly to the tutor. The tutor shall collect all fees due to the tutor from any student or parent after the first two weeks. Exam Smart will not assist in any recovery of fees.

Tuition fees are to be paid every 4 weeks to the tutor, unless otherwise agreed between the client and the tutor.

If lessons are postponed during the first two weeks, the commission payable to Exam Smart will be based on the tuition session conducted the following week(s).

ACCEPTANCE OF ASSIGNMENT

Upon receiving an Assignment Description, the tutor may apply for the Assignment. If the tutor is chosen by the client, the tutor is bound to conduct the lessons as stated in the Assignment Description, or as mutually amended in subsequent communications.

TRIAL LESSON

Paid trial lessons can have 1.5 hour or 2 hour durations.

TUTORING LOCATION

The tutor will be teaching at the student’s residence at the mutually agreed upon time, unless specified and agreed by the client and the tutor. The tutor must provide his/her own transport to the client’s home/lesson location.

FIRST LESSON

Once the client accepts the tutor’s candidacy, the client will not be able to change the schedule of the First Lesson.

Clients are allowed to make changes in the schedule after the First Lesson is over. However, Exam Smart hopes that this is not necessary as the tutor has already reserved that slot of time for the client. If the client wants to make changes in the schedule, the client is to consult with the tutor to ask if he/she is able to change the schedule or not.

The tutor is to bring your academic transcripts/certificates and relevant documents for your first lessons with the client for verification purposes.

If the tutor is unable to conduct the First Lesson of a tuition assignment, the tutor must call Exam Smart at least 3 business days before the actual lesson. If the tutor fails to notify Exam Smart of the tutor’s cancellation/postponement, an administrative charge of S$30 will be imposed on the tutor.

If the tutor fails to contact Exam Smart with a valid reason to inform us about the tutor’s absence from the lesson, the tutor’s profile at Exam Smart may be blacklisted. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

You are encouraged to carefully and responsibly consider before committing to an Assignment.

CENTRAL PROVIDENT FUND

Tutors agree to be responsible for all required obligations to the Central Provident Fund as a self-employed person. This is because, you, as a tutor, are providing private tutoring services under a contract of service to the client as an independent contractor. The tutor is not an employee of Exam Smart, and the tutor accepts full responsibility for all income tax, insurance and other liabilities payable in relation to any fees generated from a tuition assignment.

TUTOR REASSIGNMENT OR CANCELLATION OF ASSIGNMENTS

If at any time the client is not satisfied with the tutor, the client may request a replacement or termination. However, the client is responsible for paying the fee for the number of lessons given prior to termination.

Exam Smart will discuss separately with the client and the tutor regarding future tuition arrangements, and Exam Smart will change the tutor for the client. There will not be any extra charges for the change and the client needs to pay just for the tuition session(s) that have been conducted.

If the client cancels a tutoring assignment before the tutor completes the agreed number of lessons for the first 4 calendar weeks, Exam Smart assumes full legal claim to 50% of the tuition fees for the total number of lessons delivered in the month. For example, if the client had requested for 8 lessons per month, but the assignment was cancelled after the 5th session, Exam Smart will be paid commission for the 5 lessons conducted.

Exam Smart will not be liable for any payment charges or issues arising from the cancellation of tuition assignments by the client.

If the client terminates the Assignment because the tutor is often late, skips lessons without valid explanations etc, the tutor will bear Exam Smart’ full commission fee.

If the tutor cancels the Assignment after confirming acceptance (that is, the client’s contact information and address have been given to the tutor), the tutor will need to compensate the commission which amounts to 50% of the fees payable (as stated in the confirmation Whatsapp, sms, email or other forms of electronic communications) for the first 4 weeks.

Tutors are encouraged to have a long-term commitment as the clients have vested their trust in you.

TERMINATION

The client has the right to terminate the tuition if the tutor is unable to produce the documents certifying his/her credentials. In such cases, the tutor has to pay Exam Smart the amount of money equivalent to the tuition fee for the day as commission.

The tutor will receive full or pro-rated payment for the number of lessons rendered, provided the tutor has complied with the Terms of this Agreement.

DISCLAIMER

While Exam Smart tries to provide clients and tutors with the closest tutor match possible, we cannot guarantee a satisfying match. We hold no responsibility or liability for problems, unhappiness, or disputes that are a result of the tutor or client. Exam Smart will not act as an arbitrator for any disagreements that arise between tutor and client. However, Exam Smart may try to mediate whenever possible and reserves all rights to blacklist any party who is at fault. Exam Smart reserves the right to terminate or deny services to any client or tutor at any time.
